Lived 1343-1400. Geoffrey Chaucer was born in London, England. His name is of French origin and meant shoemaker. He was the son of a wine merchant and his wife Agnes. Not much is known about Geoffrey's education but through his work it shows he knew how to read Italian, French and Latin. - Alana Gray
Geoffrey Chaucer died on October 25, 1400 in London, England. He was buried in a Westminster Abbey, which was later named Poet's Corner, because of him. Later in 1555, a monument was built for him.
Geoffrey Chaucer made a crucial difference to English literature when he wrote his poems in English while most literature was written in Anglo-Norman or Latin.

In 1359-1360 Chaucer traveled to France with Edward III's army during the Hundred Years' War. Chaucer was captured in the Ardennes and returned to England after the treaty of Brétigny in 1360. Chaucer was valued as a skilled professional soldier that his ransom, £16, then a tidy sum, was paid by his friends and King Edward. -Luis Atala
